Research interests


SPM describes a family of relatively new imaging techniques (Atomic Force Microscopy, Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, Lateral Force Microscopy, etc.) in which the interaction (force, tunneling current, etc.) between an extremely sharp tip and a sample is used to map the surface topography on micron-to-nanometer-to-atomic length scales. In addition to topographical imaging, SPM has recently been used to measure local interfacial properties, such as adhesion, friction, and elasticity, and to characterize single molecular recognition binding events in biological systems
