The GCM expands its capabilities: new expertise in corrosion

The Thin Film Center (GCM), renowned as a leader in analytical and consulting services on interfaces and surfaces, is proud to add an expertise in corrosion to its core competencies. This new field of activities is the perfect match to the expertises of the GCM and FCSEL (Functional Coatings and Surface Engineering Laboratory) in materials characterization and thin films.

In order to expand its capabilities, the LaRFIS has hired a corrosion specialist, Dr. Marwan Azzi. “Mr Azzi has in-depth knowledge in corrosion, having worked in that field for more than 7 years. His skills include failure analysis, diagnostic of corrosion origin, corrosion prevention and design of anti-corrosion coatings. This new expertise strengthens our mission to offer high level analytical and consulting services to companies and researchers in thin films” said Olivier Grenier, Director of the GCM central facilities.

In addition, the GCM/LaRFIS acquired equipment to build a cutting edge laboratory to study corrosion phenomena. It comprises all the main instruments used in that field: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to carry out metallographies, Energy Dispersive Spectroscope (EDS), X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), salt fog test, potentiostat, tribocorrosion apparatus, etc.
